Back in 2015, we partnered with Ziggo Sport to launch their premium service platform, Ziggo Sport Totaal. Ever since, we refreshed and modernized the platform to meet industry standards and incorporate new features.

Ziggo Sport is the largest sports broadcaster in the Netherlands. We've worked together successfully on various projects, including building their apps, websites, content management systems (CMS), pay-per-view, transaction, and payment systems. Additionally, our involvement extends to the development of their backend systems, web interfaces, and mobile apps for their video streaming services. The development of over-the-top (OTT) media services is always in motion.

Since the very beginning, we've been Ziggo Sport's trusted partner for their premium service platform, Ziggo Sport Totaal. Throughout our collaboration, we've provided steadfast support for their live and on-demand sports broadcasts, efficiently managing peak demand periods.

Delivering top-notch streaming experiences

We keep the Ziggo Sport Totaal platform up to date with the latest technologies, boosting security, and adding new features for better user engagement. Our modular design allows for easy updates, and we optimized server capacity to reduce costs. We worked closely with partners, optimizing performance, and integrating enhanced APIs. Our PHP back-end, built on a decade of experience, provided a solid foundation.

Our efforts aim at constant improvement, cost-efficiency, and strong partnerships, ultimately delivering an outstanding streaming experience for Ziggo Sports' customers.

Handling peak demands

Ziggo Sports held the broadcasting rights for Formula 1, the Champions League, and top-tier football matches in the Netherlands. As their digital partner, we successfully managed high-demand situations, effectively accommodating virtual stadiums filled with up to 100,000 virtual spectators. Throughout our development efforts, we've always maintained a forward-looking perspective, ensuring that our solutions remain relevant for the future.

Starting in August 2024, Ziggo Sport has regained the Champions League rights, and we are committed to ensuring that we once again handle the peak capacity efficiently, providing a seamless viewing experience for fans.

Building custom modules

In addition to introducing new features, we also developed new modules tailored to Ziggo Sport's preferences. One of these modules was designed specifically for MotoGP. While Ziggo typically offers 6 standard channels, during MotoGP, they offer 5 bonus channels featuring onboard footage, the pit lane, and the scoreboard. All of this content is easily accessible through a user-friendly interface that we custom-built and configured for web, Android, iOS, and Chromecast.

For the World Championship Rugby, we seamlessly integrated Sport Buff, an engagement partner dedicated to enhancing fan participation. This integration allowed users to engage by answering questions and making predictions for points. To achieve this, we incorporated a third-party software development kit (SDK) into our entire architecture. The process began with our backend system interfacing with Sport Buff to exchange tokens, ensuring that we could identify users with accounts. This integration extended to both iOS and Android platforms.

The makings of success

Trust

Long-lasting partnerships offer a significant advantage because they enable trust-building. Ziggo Sport trusted us to make the right technical decisions and complete the project on time. We maintained open communication lines throughout, conducting monthly meetings to brief Ziggo Sport personnel. They were, of course, also involved in the acceptance of everything we built.

Autonomy

Considering certain dependencies with Marketing and other development projects that overlapped with some of our components, we had full autonomy in resource planning and project approach selection. This level of freedom is exceptional for a digital agency, and we greatly appreciate the opportunity it provided to execute this project swiftly and effectively.

Transformation

Taking care to preserve continuity in interfaces with dozens of external partners, we redesigned the system, recreated existing functionality and added new functionality in a more scalable, more maintainable, high-performance state-of-the-art platform.
